This advertisement for a store in Millport appeared in a newspaper in 1831 during the construction of the Chemung Canal. The group of men who opened the store (Spencer, Farwell, Cook, and Company) were also responsible for much of the construction of the canal. The company had contracts to build many sections of the canal and most of the lockkeepers' houses.
