This is a photograph of coal slip at Watkins Glen. At this site, railroad cars loaded with coal transshipped their cargo into canal boats to be towed north to the Cayuga and Seneca Canal in Geneva and then to the Erie Canal.The remains of this slip can still be seen on the west side of the Cargill Salt Company on Fourth Street in Watkins Glen.
